BLUE CRUISE REFERENCES
Dear Boreas Captain & Crew:
In August, I spent seven days aboard Aegean Yacht Services' Boreas yacht touring the SW coast of Turkey with my fellow Harvard Business Scholl classmates. Having never taken a cruise or traveled to Turkey, I did not know what to expect in terms of the boat or customer service. I assumed that, at best, the boat experience would be a "non-event" and act only as a backdrop for my vacation. What I found is that through the efforts of Boreas Captain and Crew, the boat trip exceeded my expectations and became an integral part of my Turkish experience.
Delivering on the Fundaments
The Boreas Captain and Crew executed flawlessly on the operational fundamentals. For one, our meals were prepared freshly and served on-time every day. Weather and the schedule changes we made could have easily interrupt the meal preparation process. Secondly, when the airlines lost luggage the Boreas crew arranged for delivery to nearest port. Instead of causing delays for the rest of us who had our luggage, crew members took a smaller boat to retrieve the luggage. This showed the crew's ability to think of the customer ahead of themselves. Finally, when there were navigational changes (due to weather or need for water), the captain kept us very well-informed. By having full information about the rationale behind decisions that were made by the captain, our expectations were managed. No one complained about not being able to see a particular site because we understood why our itinerary had changed.
Adding a Special Touch
The Boreas Captain and Crew's customer service went beyond the fundamentals to include several "special touches". One example is the dance party that was thrown for us that included Turkish dance lessons complete with make-shift costumes. The event not only made us feel very welcome but also gave us another taste of Turkish culture. In addition, the crew went above and beyond expectation by teaching us some Turkish words and phrases. Practicing our Turkish provided a natural way to interact and connect with the crew. Another special touch was when a crew member began going around cleaning everyone's sunglasses. None of these perks were advertised in the trip literature. Instead, individual crew members took it upon themselves to do what they could to make our trip unique.
A Customer-Focused Approach
My experience in the Boreas illustrates Aegean Yacht Services' commitment to providing excellent customer service. There are aspects of the organization that I believe enable a high level of customer service. For one, there is clear alignment between what the customers want and what the employees are capable of delivering. The target customer is a traveler who wants things to run as smoothly as they might on a big ship, but values more individualized attention. The Boreas Captain and Crew members had the necessary standardized training to operate the boat and the autonomy and creative license to deliver exceptional personalized service. Also, the employees appeared to be very satisfied with their jobs as indicated by their jovial nature and eagerness to share their local knowledge. Their positive attitudes set a tone for the trip and, I believe, enabled them to provide excellent service. The measurement and reward systems also reinforce Aegean Yacht Services' customer service model. Detailed customer surveys were distributed at the end of the trip to gauge satisfaction levels.

Thank you for a lovely time. It was a real adventure for us, a true holiday, we had a great time. The food was very good, you have an excellent cook and the Turkish kitchen is delicious. The crew is kind and well trained, we were very well looked after. We are sure to be back next year, maybe to discover more of Turkey, although we liked the Greek islands very much. We would like to thank you all for a wonderful holiday! The food was varied and delicious and everything was kept spotless. The captain and all the crew were always efficient, helpful and polite and entered into the fun and games with enthusiasm. They could not have been any better. I was grateful for the way they looked after me when I had to get in and out of the small boats. They did everything they could to make our holiday successful. We will miss them.
Thank you also to all our other shipmates for a 39th birthday I will never forget. I really enjoyed the Turkish dancing. Thank you for teaching us how to do it so well!!!

I would like to say a special THANKYOU to captain Selim, Ertan the cook and the ever smiling sailors Huseyin and Serdal for making my first week aboard the yacht a successful one. I never imagined we would be eating the tasty and varied food prepared by Ertan! I shall be on a never ending diet to get rid of my pot belly. The week has gone very quickly but smoothly, thanks to very hard working crew You make me feel tired just watching you do your daily tasks. The boat has been kept immaculately clean throughout and I've been continually been hearing good comments from all the guests aboard.
I would like to wish Selim, his crew and all the Aegean Yacht services all the best of luck for the next summer.
P.S. I will try to remember all the Turkish words you have taught us. Perhaps I could be your sailor next year :!

After drinking in a plane,
In a funny mood on board we came.
On Sunday morning our trip started soon
After the first wonderful night under the moon.
With good wind and weather we sailed from bay to bay,
Our captain Selim always found the right way.
Nejat and Ali were always ready for a good joke,
There was no hope to sleep without dope. (raki!)
Cooky 1 and Cooky 2 everyday made a fantastic meal,
And however the whole journey was a Super Deal.
We want to thank you for this wonderful time,
And if we meet each other again, that would be fine!

This was a real "Magic Life"!
The week we spent on this marvelous boat with a very friendly and helpful staff and animation team has taken away all the stress and fatigue of the past year.
How to forget such a harmonious and responsible family who showed us the world famous Turkish hospitality:
Selim, a very competent captain;
Nejat, a technician who always find a solution for each problem;
Ercan and Ertan, the "cook brothers" who generally contributed to the weights we put on during this trip with their delicious meals;
Ali, being a sailor, showman, and a barman, who gave a great service with his jokes and amusements;
Kutay, the sheikh of Mediterranean, who always anchored to the right places in the deep blue waters;
And last but not the least
Murat, with his calm and ability, who proved to be a good candidate for captain like his big brother.
The animation team, Ercan and Umit, were completing this family with their perfect organization and guiding.
Thank you for all, guys!
